Which means that your shampoo and conditioner could each include the maximum allowed daily dose of any given chemical. And current cosmetics laws in the U.S. date back to 1938 – long before many of these chemicals were even developed.
And honestly, there are enough loopholes in the U.S. federal law to allow the cosmetics industry to put unlimited amounts of chemicals into personal care products with no required testing, no monitoring of health effects, and inadequate labeling requirements. In fact, cosmetics are among the least-regulated products on the market.
